Normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is used to measure photosynthetic activity and health in plants. We have performed mapping with NDVI here on the research farm to predict the yield of crops. In this study, we measure the effects of various yield enhancing products, while taking NDVI imagery. The NDVI imagery allowed a relative estimate of what trials would yield higher, as well as exposing some compaction issues in the field.
The NDVI and yield outputs also correlated with soil types, showing yield differences in soil that could be visually seen with NDVI before harvest.
